Had a couple of late nights this weekend, there was no surprise when I felt the familiar title of a coldsore on Monday morning. I do my best to prevent the tingle. The routine goes as follows – feel the tingle – sigh – engage mental capacity – target tingle area with my MIND – command a firework like explosion of interferons – send in the macrophages to mop it up – feel the tingle – do all the above repeatedly… often manage to stop the infection from full break out. Yep really, I can. Mind over matter.

I don’t even know if this is possible…so guess what? More questions erupted in my brain. What are the mechanisms b Herpes Simplex type 1 virus ehind the herpes virus? I know they hide from your immune system in your nerves – with the common coldsore it’s the facial nerve (Cranial nerve VII – love the cranial nerves). But HOW?

Found this : Agelidis AM, Shukla D. Cell entry mechanisms of HSV: what we have learned in recent years. Future Virol. 2015;10(10):1145-1154 and this Gregory T. MelroeNeal A. DeLucaDavid M. Knipe. Herpes Simplex Virus 1 Has Multiple Mechanisms for Blocking Virus-Induced Interferon Production.

Now I just have to read them…but it’s time for the school pick up…so stay tuned! Me and my herpes are heading out…
